First Person-  uses the words: I or We  Normally used when someone is stating an opinion or sharing a feeling  Example: I like my freshly-painted bedroom so much that I want to jump for joy!  What words show first person? Practice: Turn to your neighbor and share an opinion and a feeling you have about school.  What words did you use that show first person ?

Second Person  Uses the word: You  Good to use when giving directions  When speaking directly to someone  Almost never used to tell a story  Example: “You should really come and join the group because you would probably like it a lot.”  What words show second person?  Practice: Turn to your neighbor tell them how they should make a peanut butter and jelly sandwhich.  What words did you use that show second person?

5  3. Third Person  Uses words: He, She, or They  Sometimes uses: It (when talking about a things and not a person)  Example: Sally rode home as fast as she could. Then she jumped off her bike and ran into the house to see what was going on.  What words show third person?  Practice: Turn to your neighbor and tell a fiction story about someone/something else.  What words did you use that show third person?

6 WHAT POINT OF VIEW IS THE RECIPE TOLD IN? HOW DO YOU KNOW?  What point of view? How do you know?  I always loved Christmas. It is my favorite holiday ever!  What point of view? How do you know?  Sara and Larry were terrified to enter the building. They did not know what they saw in the window, but they both knew it shouldn’t be there.

7  They found themselves in bed and watching, by the dim light from the night-light, the rest of Mary Poppin’s unpacking being performed. From the carpet bag she took out seven flannel nightgowns, four cotton ones, a pair of boots, a set of dominoes, two bathing-caps and a postcard album. Jane an Michael sat hugging themselves and watching. It was all so surprising that they could find nothing to say. But they knew, both of them, that something strange and wonderful had happened at Number Sevennteen, Cherry-Tree Lane.  What point of view?  THIRD!

8  The farm next to ours is owned by Mr. and Mrs. Gregg. The Greggs have two children, both of them boys. Their names are Philip and William. Sometimes I go over to their farm to play with them. I am a girl and I am eight years old. Philip is also eight years old. Last week something very funny happened. I am going to tell you about it as best as I can.  What point of view?  FIRST!

9  Before each practice begins, make sure you check the court and remove any debris from the playing surface. When your players arrive, check that they have the proper footwear and that they’ve removed any jewelry, which could injure the player wearing the jewelry or another player. Always carry a list of emergency phone numbers for your players, and know where the nearest phone is located. You should also have a first- aid kit, and you might want to take a first-aid course.  What Point of View?  Second!
