Background: KENDBIP is part of Africa biogas partnership programme (ABPP). Donor Dutch Govt( DGIS), principal partners: -Hivos, SNV, GoK & KENAFF. Multi-sectoral approach – Private public partnership. Phase I:- 2009 -2013. Stimulating demand and strengthening supply capacity. Phase II:- 2014 – 2017. Commercialization - private sector development 2

Programme Update 14109 plants installed 2009/14 87% satisfaction rate. Functionality issues: mainly user related. Technology reliability : 95% Energy savings: – Firewood reduction - 66%. – Charcoal reduction - 51%. – Kerosene reduced - 21%. Reduced chemical fertilizer : 84%. Living conditions improved : 89.7%. 4

Other key sector developments. Introduction of alternative digester designs. – Plastic – Fixed & floating drum designs. – Tubular designs. – Low cost masonry designs. Increased Government support. Development of National biogas training curriculum. Development of national biogas standards. Establish a customer service/call centre – quality assurance. 6
