1 Bell Work Draw a food chain using the following organisms, and label each as a producer, primary consumer, secondary consumer, and tertiary consumer. Rabbit Fox Carrot Cougar Where does energy start for every food chain?

2

3 Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration
Carbon Cycle Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration

4 The Carbon Cycle The carbon cycle is the process by which carbon moves though the planet in its different forms. It exists in an ecosystem in two main forms: Organic (plant/animal material, sugars, fats…) Inorganic (carbon dioxide, limestone rock)

5 Plants and Animals Plants and animals rely on one another for survival. Can you think of a way plants rely on animals? Can you think of a way animals rely on plants?

6 Plants and Photosynthesis
Plants remove carbon from the atmosphere Carbon in the atmosphere exists as carbon dioxide (CO2) Plants take in carbon dioxide and use it to create glucose and oxygen Water + Carbon Dioxide + Energy  glucose + oxygen From the sun

7

8 Animals and Cellular Respiration
Animals release carbon into the atmosphere in the form of CO2 They do so by the process of cellular respiration Glucose + oxygen  energy + carbon dioxide + water

9 What do you notice? Glucose + oxygen  energy + carbon dioxide + water
water + carbon Dioxide + energy  glucose + oxygen Glucose + oxygen  energy + carbon dioxide + water

10 Plants absorb the CO2 from the atmosphere through Photosynthesis
Animals release CO2 into the atmosphere through Cellular respiration Simple Carbon Cycle Plants release oxygen into the atmosphere through photosynthesis Animals absorb oxygen from the atmosphere through cellular respiration

11 Atmosphere Animals Simple Carbon Cycle Plants Atmosphere
