1 U.S. Ski Team shaken by deaths

2 Six U.S. ski team members were freeskiing when a avalanche struck resulting in the deaths of Ronnie Berlack, 20, and Bryce Astle, 19. The other four skiers were able to ski out of danger. Their deaths in an avalanche at a resort in the Austrian Alps have left their friends on the U.S. Ski Team in shock. Apparently, they and the other four skiers left the safe slopes and went out into an open area on Monday. The risk of avalanche was set at level 3 out of 5, with warnings on TV and radio. A team of around 60 rescuers, including two helicopters and dogs, took 40 to 50 minutes to find Astle and Berlack. It took so long because the two Americans weren't wearing gear that sends out signals to rescuers in avalanches. The searchers eventually found the two men about 10 to 13 feet under the snow.

3 In Other News The trial process of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev started this week. He's accused of plotting with his brother and carrying out an attack near the finish line of the Boston Marathon that killed three people, wounded more than 260 and spurred a massive manhunt that terrorized the city for days. The first step is to select a jury. About 1,200 potential jurors have been summoned. The prosecution and defense will have to pare down that pool to 12 jurors and six alternates. Prosecutors have said the trial could last up to four months. Since Tsarnaev's trial is a capital case, there will be a separate court proceeding on whether he should get the death penalty if the federal jury finds him guilty. That phase would be like a "small, separate mini trial.“ Divers searching for victims and wreckage from AirAsia Flight QZ8501 are finding things difficult. Monsoon rains, muddy water, high waves and poor visibility are impeding their already dangerous job. And for crews searching for the plane's black boxes, only three weeks remain before the pinging noise from the boxes fade away. A total of 37 bodies have been recovered out of 162 passengers and crew members on board the AirAsia flight. The new Congress convenes today, and for the first time since 2006, Republicans will have control of both the House and Senate. Among their plans for this year: confront President Barack Obama on issues such as the Keystone XL pipeline, immigration, health care and national security. The Girl Scouts announced they will offer three new cookie varieties for 2015. Two of the new offerings are gluten-free: Toffee-tastic, a cookie with toffee bits; and Trios, a cookie made with peanut butter, chocolate chips and whole grain oats. Rah-Rah Raisins, an oatmeal raisin cookie with Greek yogurt-flavored chunks, will also be available for the first time. Approximately 1.5 million Girl Scouts sell 200 million boxes of cookies each year during the selling season, which begins in January. This year marks the organization's 98th year of cookie sales.
