The conclusion… 49-50

Genesis 49:33 (ESV) 33 When Jacob finished commanding his sons, he drew up his feet into the bed and breathed his last and was gathered to his people.

Genesis 50:15–16 (ESV) 15 When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “It may be that Joseph will hate us and pay us back for all the evil that we did to him.” 16 So they sent a message to Joseph, saying, “Your father gave this command before he died:

Genesis 50:17–18 (ESV) 17 ‘Say to Joseph, “Please forgive the transgression of your brothers and their sin, because they did evil to you.” ’ And now, please forgive the transgression of the servants of the God of your father.” Joseph wept when they spoke to him. 18 His brothers also came and fell down before him and said, “Behold, we are your servants.”

Genesis 41:41 (ESV) 41 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.” 44 Moreover, Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I am Pharaoh, and without your consent no one shall lift up hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.”

The powerful should use their power to extend Grace

Isaiah 66:2 (NLT) My hands have made both heaven and earth; they and everything in them are mine. I, the Lord, have spoken! “I will bless those who have humble and contrite hearts, who tremble at my word.

Genesis 50:19–20 (ESV) 19 But Joseph said to them, “Do not fear, for am I in the place of God? 20 As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.

Genesis 50:21–22 (ESV) 21 So do not fear; I will provide for you and your little ones.” Thus he comforted them and spoke kindly to them. 22 So Joseph remained in Egypt, he and his father’s house. Joseph lived 110 years.

What did Joseph do in order to assure that the death of his father does not split the family?

Rather than exacting his own revenge upon his brothers, Joseph reminded them about the sovereignty of God.

He understood life was in the hand of God.

Genesis 50:19–20 (ESV) 19 But Joseph said to them, “Do not fear, for am I in the place of God? 20 As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.

Genesis 45:8 (NLT) 8 So it was God who sent me here, not you! And he is the one who made me an adviser to Pharaoh—the manager of his entire palace and the governor of all Egypt.

It’s God’s party, not yours.

Genesis 1:22 (ESV) 22 And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.”

Genesis 2:3 (ESV) 3 So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.

Genesis 9:1 (ESV) 1 And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth.

Genesis 25:11 (ESV) 11 After the death of Abraham, God blessed Isaac his son.
