Unit 6 Study I. Aims of this unit In this unit, the theme of discussion is study including diploma, degree and the plan after graduation. We aim to help students achieve the following: 1.Successful implementation of fieldwork, involving teamwork skill, competence in questioning and presentation about the fieldwork. 2.Building the vocabulary related to the theme. 3.Creative writing of diplomas, degrees or certificates. 4. Revision of Passive Voice of Verbs.

2. Sentence Patterns: What’s your major? I’m majoring in… Colleges do not award any degree but a diploma. Why are you coming here to enroll for this class? I haven’t got an idea yet. I’d like to further my study abroad. What are you interested in knowing? I did my bachelor’s program at… I hope I can be as smart as you are. My brother is graduating from… today. What do think you’ll be doing this time next year? I’ve got a feeling that the job opportunity will decide where I’ll be settling.

3. Grammar Passive Voice of Verbs V. Procedures: Section I: Talking Face to Face (3 periods) 1.Show students diplomas compared with the English version. Help students understand the English version of diploma and degree. 2.Speaking(oral actions in class) (1)Role play Give Students some time to practice the dialogues after listening to the tape. Choose several pairs to read the dialogues aloud and help them pick up the important phrases and sentences.

(3) Put in Use Do the exercises together and explain difficult expressions.

Section II: Being All Ears (1period) (1)Listening and Decode Ask the students to scan the passage once Play the tape and finish this exercise Correct this exercise by offering answers (2) Listen and Respond Ask the students to scan the 5 questions Play the tape again and ask them to answer the questions orally (3) Listen and complete Give students 1min to scan the sentences and play the tape Finish the exercise by checking the answers

(4) Listen and Judge Play the tape again and finish the multiple-choice exercise Pick some students to offer their answers (5) Listen and Read Go through the new words and give students 2mins to scan the passage Play the tape and fill in the blanks Check the answers and give some explanations (6) Listen and match Conclude Follow the procedures above
