Background Need to know where people obtain supplies, public vs. private sources Need to know whether people pay for supplies, and if so, how much they pay – compare costs at public and private sources Information on sources and costs of supplies can be useful for countries that want to monitor provision of free or subsidized supplies

Background Can provide a population-based assessment of the reach of programs and the extent to which particular target groups are covered Important to assess the costs of supplies, since prices of supplies can be a barrier to ownership For programme managers who want to find out public and private shares and the relative importance of each source

Indicators Four optional modules included in MICS3, to obtain information on costs and supplies of Insecticide Treated Nets Antimalarials Oral Rehydration Salts Antibiotics

Indicators Source of Supplies Numerator: Number of children/households obtaining the supply from a public provider Denominator: Number of children/households for whom supplies were obtained

Indicators Cost of Supplies Numerator: Median cost of supplies obtained from public and private sources Denominator: Number of children/households for whom supplies were obtained
