 Base: The supportive bottom piece of the microscope.  Sub stage light: It’s a light, it removes the dark. It is operated by a switch. 3

 Head: AKA body tube  Supports the ocular lens and objective lens system.  Ocular lenses: Eyepieces. Usually has a magnification of 10X, increases the magnification by a power of 10.  Nosepiece: Attaches the objective lenses.  Objective lenses: 3 or 4 objective lenses. 4X (scanning), 10X (low), 40X (High), if present 100X(oil immersion). 4

 Arm: Narrow, vertical part connecting the head and base. Stage: The flat platform upon which the microscope slide is placed. The mechanical stage or stage clips keep the slide stationary. Coarse adjustment knobs: Usually the largest knobs on the arm. Turning them raises and lowers the stage. Control the focus. **should only be used at 4X or 10X to avoid contacting the lens.** 5

 Arm Continued  Fine Adjustment knobs: usually located at the center of the coarse adjustment knobs.  Condenser: A lens located just below the stage. Concentrates light on the specimen.  Iris Diaphragm Lever: Opens and closes to regulate light passing through the condenser. 6

 Cleaning: Only use Lens paper and optical lens cleaner (provided at your lab stations) for objective lenses!  When storing, put on lowest objective, lower stage, wind the cord, and use microscope cover. 9
