3.  Oedipus Complex - A boy’s sexual feelings toward his mother and feelings of jealousy and hatred toward his father.  Fixation- A pleasure seeking energies in the earlier psychosexual stage.  Defense mechanism - Tactics that reduce or redirect anxiety by distorting reality.  Repression - Banishes anxiety-arousing e thoughts and feelings from the consciousness.

6. StageFocus Oral (0- 18months) Pleasure centers on the mouth- sucking, biting, chewing Anal (18- 36months) Pleasure focuses on bowel and bladder elimination; coping with demands for control. Phallic(3- 6years) Pleasure zone is the genitals; coping with incestuous sexual feelings. Latency(6- puberty) Dormant sexual feelings Genital (puberty on) Maturation of sexual interest.

7.  The humanistic perspective focus on the positive image of what it means to be human.  Self actualization is at the top on the motivational hierarchy. This makes it the weak of all needs and the most easily impeded.  The cultural environment may also stifle self- actualization by imposing certain norms on major segments of the population.

8.  Maslow believed that if basic human needs are fulfilled, people will strive to actualize their higher potential.  If our physiological needs are not met, we become concerned with our safety.  Maslow based his ideas by studying healthy, creative people rather than troubled clinical cases.

10.  Humanistic Psychologist sometimes assessed personality by asking people to fill out questionnaires that would evaluate Self- Concept.  Roger asked people to describe their ideal self and who they are. He says if they match up to be alike then the self-concept is positive.  Self-Concept- is all our thoughts and feelings about ourselves (Who am I?).  Some Humanistic Psychologist think standardized assessment of personality even in a questionnaire is depersonalizing.( Meaning not getting to really express your true self). So the resume to interviews and intimate conversations. Which will provide a better understanding of each person.

11.  Most people Believed In Maslow’s and Roger’s perspective on self-concept being the key to happiness and success and acceptance help nurture ones feelings about themselves and that people are good and capable of self- improvement.
