3. PROGRESS SINCE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE ACT 9 Provincial Registrars appointed More guiding associations showing interest in the new system Tour Operators beginning to play a positive role in engaging registered guides Quarterly meetings held by Registrars to discuss guiding issues

4. ROLE OF PROVINCIAL REGISTRARS Develop training and development plans for tourist guides in their respective provinces Organize establishment of representative associations in each province Establish relationships with tour operators Develop tourist guide transformation strategy in each province

5. TRANSFORMATION OF THE GUIDING SECTOR DEAT to train 300 guides nationwide in 2003- 2004 and additional 300 guides will be trained each year until 2006 DEAT to train 60 HDI tourist guide trainers nationwide Tour operators engaged in providing internships for new guides from disadvantaged backgrounds 20 additional Amathuba students undergoing training in Germany Opportunities for HDI training sourced by DEAT through inter-government bilaterals
