He stumbles over his words when talking to her and is extremely nervous. Tristan has low self- esteem and does not stand up for himself when Humphrey challenges him in the street and insults him. He also cannot tell that Victoria is using him for what he can give her. She does not care for him at all. Tristan is trusting and naïve with little life experience. This shows he has more confidence in himself. He is no longer fooled by Victoria’s beauty and can see how shallow she is. Tristan tells her to “grow up” and get over herself. He also stands up for himself when Humphrey challenges him to a duel. Tristan has developed into a strong, confident person who is now King of Stormhold. He has much more life experience and appears to have grown from a boy into a man. In the closing scene Tristan has changed considerably.
