We used different angles; over the shoulder, birds eye and natural (eye-level) shots to create the impression she is being watched.

There is a focus on the lights as they begin to flicker, and a pan shot vertically down to build up the suspense of how the actor will react, finally reaching a close shot of her face to show her emotion so the audience can sense her confusion/anxiety.

A close up shot of the door handle was used to emphasise the moment of panic as for a minute she can’t open the door.

We chose ENGLISH 4 as it was in a good location and had a large crack down the wall outside the room, creating eeriness.

We used the lighting behind the actress to create a silhouette creating a mysterious and supernatural effect.

We used a dark, birds-eye shot of the actress to create a sense that she is being watched and to increase her vulnerability.

We made the number on the phone appear to be ‘unknown’ to create mystery as the audience will question the identity of the caller…

The camera angles are canted and the focus is blurry showing her point of view as she makes her way to the toilet. This shows her confusion and irrationality in the scary and uncomfortable situation she has found herself in.

Capturing only half the door, we were able to use an actor below the shot to slowly close the door so the audience believe the door is shutting by itself, increasing their confusion and fear.

Using shot looking up upon the character created a sense of confusion, representing the actors anxiety. For a moment the audiences perception of her whereabouts is distorted creating a moment of confusion.

Jerky shots and quick cuts from the actress to the flickering lights are using to build up pace, tension and anxiety as the audience begin to become frightened as they know that the occurrences are more than just coincidence.

Finally, a close up shot from behind, as if we are looking upon the actress through the eyes of the unknown presence, is used to build up tension as the opening of the film reaches a climax, and audience anticipate what will happen to the girl.
