+ What is anaphylaxis? A severe, potentially fatal allergic reaction.

+ Common causes of anaphylaxis: Foods allergies: Peanuts Tree nuts Shellfish Fish Other allergens: Latex Bee stings Antibiotics or medications

+ Symptoms of anaphylaxis: When a person exhibits one of the following: skin, nose, mouth or gastrointestinal symptoms AND difficulty breathing such as wheezing, or decrease in blood pressure Or at least two of the following: skin symptoms or lip swelling decreased blood pressure gastrointestinal symptoms [When to use an Epi-Pen]

+ Why epinephrine? Epinephrine must be given as a “shot” Dispensed as a self or auto- injector Must be given as soon as possible Delay in treatment can be fatal This medication can reverse symptoms immediately.

+ How to administer an Epi-Pen 1. Remove from case and uncap lid Hold in closed fist with orange tip down
