2012-2013Route 669 The Car and Route 66 Before we can talk about Route 66, we need to look at the automobile. IT LITERALLY CHANGED THE LANDSCAPE OF AMERICA. The car liberated isolated families in rural areas. Now, they could drive to the city, shop and seek entertainment.

Indeed, the car was the first truly private place where men and women could meet….. The car also allowed workers the opportunity to live miles from their jobs—often more cheaply than if they had lived closer to those jobs.
