Can you think of a period in history where discrimination took place on a large scale?

LO: To understand the effect discrimination had on the Jewish community.

On coming to power in 1933, Hitler wanted to destroy his political enemies, improve the German economy and rebuild German Army. Blamed the Jewish population for Germany loosing the First World War. Part of his plan for rebuilding the German economy was a policy called ‘Aryanisation’, by where he seized control of businesses and assets from German Jews.

Badges – Every Jewish person had to wear the Star of David. Separate schools. Public places (Cinema, theatre) No sitting on public transport. Jewish people had to walk in the road, not allowed to walk on the pavement. Nazi hatred towards Jews came from jealousy, many of the Jews were seen as successful. Occupied top jobs such as doctors, lawyers and business owners.

Part of the ‘final solution’ in dealing with the Jews was to put them into concentration camps. By the end of the second World War, over 6 million Jews had been murdered in concentration camps. Women, young children and the elderley were killed in the concentration camps within hours of arrival as they were considered unfit to work.

Write a diary entry imagining you are Anne Frank Things to think about: - How are you being treated? - How does it make you feel? - WHY are you being discriminated against? - Is it fair?

You have included basic description of some of the things that have happened to you. You have included some detail about the ways in which you have been discriminated against and given some examples. You have included lots of detailed description about the ways in which you have been discriminated against using specific examples. You have also included thoughts and feelings.
