10 Slide 10 Defining Independent Contractors Independent Contractor An individual or small company (excluding C-Corporations) with fewer than three full time employees who performs services for the university in which the contractor exercises complete control and direction over how the work is completed. These individuals are customarily engaged in an independent established business and do not carry ongoing relationships with the university. A more in depth definition can be found here.here

19 Slide 19 Are You Ready To Order? Youre ready when you have the following: Know the full amount of the contract Budget number General ledger account number (G/L) Vendor Three documents Determination letter Contract Competitive bid – OR – sole source justification

20 Slide 20 Contract The contract is the actual agreement between JHU and the contractor. For services $5,000 or greater and less than $50,000: Independent Contractor Agreement To be used when the cost of the project exceeds $50,000: Master Consulting Services Agreement Note: There are international versions of these forms for someone who will work outside of the US who may qualify as an IC.
