What is B2Share? A user-friendly, reliable and trustworthy way for researchers, scientific communities and citizen scientists to store and share small-scale research data coming from diverse contexts Why use it? To have that peace of mind that your data is stored safe and sound while reaping the rewards of sharing data with others. Data is findable because of metadata; data is located in Europe 2
3
What data can you deposit? Research data Primary data Processed data Data as basis for a publication Empirical data Theoretical data In virtually any kind of format…. Papers Spreadsheets Audio-visual media Just a note…. Make sure that you are allowed to upload your data. Data protection laws exist to protect sensitive data and restrictions exist. Always check if your data has any restrictions on where it can be stored. Unrelated personal data should not be stored on B2SHARE

B2Share Nordic Nordic e-Infrastructure Collaboration –CSC-IT Center for Science (Finland) –SNIC (Sweden) –Sigma (Norway) Engage Nordic communities to customize B2Share –Define community specific metadata interface –Specify requirements Initial targeted research communities include neuroinformatics; earth sciences; climate research; biomedical research; scatter radar observations; translational medicine; life science; natural science;… 4

Metadata Describes datasets Allow others to find data Generic metadata (common to all datasets) –Title, Description, Creator, Open Access, License Community Specific metadata –Specific to community or field of science –Example: biomedical research obviously has different needs than linguists or meteorology, etc. In the project we discuss with researchers to specify metadata fields relevant to their field 6
7
Example: customized metadata 7
8
Example: customization file in Invenio 8
9
How do I search for data? Basic search Part of a title, keyword, abstract or other metadata. Advanced search Specify search fields, use boolean methods in various indices and use regular expressions and other search operators. Search guide available on search page www.eudat.euwww.eudat.eu | https://b2share.eudat.eu/ B2SHARE
10
EUDAT B2Find EUDAT’s cross-disciplinary metadata catalogue Part of EUDAT infrastructure Harvests metadata from B2Share –Datasets uploaded to B2Share are findable through B2Find –Attract additional visibility to your datasets and research 10

PIDs 11
12
What happens to my data once I have deposited it? Data is stored on state of the art servers at CSC - the Finnish IT Center for Science, Kajaani, Finland EUDAT creates replicas at trusted centers to take care of long-term persistence. EUDAT has no claim over the data deposited in B2SHARE and depositors remain responsible for the data uploaded. B2SHARE

Conclusions B2Share is EUDATs file sharing service available for users for free (beta version) –http://b2share.eudat.eu B2Share Nordic is a project to engage research communities to customize B2Share –Understanding enduser requirements –Co-implementing what is possible –Documenting other requirements for future use 13
