Types of Insulation Loose-Fill: cellulose fibers, fiberglass fibers, rockwool fiber - sprayed into spaces Batt and Blanket: layers of insulation like a mat Cut and placed between wooden supports in walls, floors or ceilings Can be wrapped around hot water tanks Rigid Board: flat pieces fiberglass or polyurethane that can be used for physical construction Sprayed: polyurethane foam

Windows Double or Triple Paned Filled with argon or krypton gas (poor thermal conductors) Weather Stripping Locking Windows Curtains/Shades: Winter: closed at night, open in day Summer: closed at day, open at night

Appliances energy efficient models keep refrigerator full Dishwasher: don’t rinse plates clean WASH BY HAND???

Water Heater wrap with insulation set thermostat at 130 o Tankless water heaters

Washer and Dryer cold and warm water instead of hot clothes line instead of dryer

Thermostat down in winter – wear a sweater up in summer change settings when not at home

Lights energy efficient bulbs ? off when not in use Skylights

Bathroom brush your teeth then wash your face shorter showers, less full baths if a bath allow water to stay in tub to heat the air

Other Tips don’t heat the whole house close vents in rarely used rooms most used rooms add a space heater and keep the thermostat on low
