3. INTRO In this social studies unit, you will learn about different cultures, environments, people, and ways of life. It is important for you to understand that no two people are the same, and there are many different ways throughout the world to live, speak, eat, talk, and no two people look the same. While we must embrace differences, we must also stand up and show others who we are as well.

6. SECTION 1 – WHAT IS DIVERSITY? An important part of understanding diversity is understanding who you are. Diversity – the act of accepting that everyone is different, respecting, and embracing these differences These key terms are all a part of what makes you who you are. 7. CULTURE Culture –the quality in a person or society that arises from a concern for what is regarded as excellent in arts, letters, manners, scholarly pursuits, etc. Take a look at the image to the left. These are all different things that represent someone’s culture.

8. ETHNIC GROUP Ethnic Group – pertaining to or characteristic of a people, especially a group sharing a common and distinctive culture, religion, language, or the like.

9. RACE Race – a group of persons related by common descent or heredity.

10. CLASS Class – a group of persons sharing a similar social position and certain economic, political, and cultural characteristics

11. REVIEW There are so many different ways to be a diverse individual. While people are all trying to fit it, it is very important to remember to stand up for who you are and what you believe in!
