Why Are We Doing an E-Newsletter for President Emmert? In response to feedback from business leaders that: – UW needs to become a better partner – We talk more than we listen – When we do listen we don’t always take action – Business leaders don’t fully understand the value of the UW to their businesses, the state, etc. Provide fresh content for the Business and Industry Web site: www.industry.washington.edu 3

Goals Build stronger relationships with business leaders across the state Motivate business leaders to support us with the Legislature Position Pres. Emmert as a fellow CEO Demonstrate UW’s business value Provide the Pres. a way to communicate back and forth with business leaders 4

The Process: Step by Step Office of Development & Alumni Relations 7 Step 1: Draft: Content Sections Internal Stakeholders Publication Name Look & Feel Project Scope & Schedule Subscriber List & Sources Online Subscription Process Web Integration Strategy Step 2: Feedback loop Content ideas & design Emmert, Woodward, Kravis & Business Interest Group Step 5: Route for Review Send drafts to stakeholders Incorporate feedback Step 4: Write It Newsletter Content Privacy Policy Subscription Page Content Destination Content Step 6: Build It Place text into HTML template Publish design elements Publish articles, as needed Draft Subject line Test links Step 3: Get final approval for design/content concept Step 7: Test It E-mail draft HTML version to stakeholders for link testing and feedback. Technology Subscriber names will stored in the Advance database & tagged as subscribers The e-mail distribution software is Convio: – Can import subscriber data from more than one database – Creates HTML and text versions – Secure and well-supported on the back end – Can scale up to handle e-mail distribution from multiple units across campus – Used by University Advancement, UW Marketing, and UWAA 9
