Write down what you think the effects of an earthquake would be for people: Did you get: Flood risks Collapsed buildings Loss of communication Fire risk Loss of income/work Homelessness

Prediction: Read Page 30 of Textbook Why is it important to forecast earthquakes? Prevention: Possible? Why or why not? Protection: Most important!!

Have a plan Know your emergency escape route Identify hazards in your house Identify safe zones Have an emergency kit Insurance Natural hazard insurance protects us financially so that we can replace things damaged in earthquakes.

Create an earthquake emergency plan Draw a map of your house and include: ▪ Escape Route ▪ Safest places in your house ▪ Identify hazards (heavy bookcases, large windows) ▪ Emergency kit location ▪ Communication points
