S TRATEGIC P LAN Our Mission: Cultivate a relationship between Sunnyvale University and the community that promotes an understanding of the symbiotic exchange between the two. Introduce the following initiatives: Develop a Community Action Council Institute a University Creed Establish a Social Media presence Host Town & Gown Forums Increase Community Involvement Expand Campus Access to the Community Create a Zoning & Ordinance Policy

C OMMUNITY A CTION C OUNCIL Council Membership: Dean of Students Student Activities Director Residence Life Director Deputy Mayor Council Responsibilities: Monthly meetings to address relevant issues impacting both the campus and community. Implement suggested initiatives to improve campus and community relations. Assess the progress of established initiatives and amend as necessary. Student Representatives University Police City Police

U NIVERSITY C REED The University will establish an official Sunnyvale Creed that encourages an individual commitment to serve the community and challenges students to make a positive impact by taking an active role in their citizenship. In order to register for classes, all students must complete UCreed, an interactive online learning program designed to educate students about the application of the creed during their time at Sunnyvale and beyond.

S OCIAL M EDIA Encourage students to follow city accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media outlets. Create a monthly e-newsletter for community subscription. #SVcommUNITY Encourage students and community members to share positive experiences of partnership within the community. Live Tweet during Community Action Council meetings. Use hashtag during community service events and other campus and community programming.

T OWN & G OWN F ORUMS Host quarterly forums open to the public that address initiatives and allow for feedback from stakeholders. Encourage live Tweeting during the forum. #SVTownGown Take feedback from the forum and use it to revise initiatives and create new ones.

C OMMUNITY I NVOLVEMENT Faculty & Staff members host lecture series and educational programs for members of the community. Students volunteer in local schools, youth centers, and assisted living centers. Establish a partnership between local entities allowing them to host summer camps and other activities on campus. Work with the University Foundation to establish a scholarship fund for local youth. Sunnyvale

C AMPUS A CCESS Allowing the community to utilize campus resources through membership. For example, people would be able to purchase passes to: Recreational Facilities Libraries Computer Labs

L AW E NFORCEMENT P ARTNERSHIP Partner the university police with the city police to educate both the student and city communities on zoning, noise ordinances, and alcohol education policies. Work with local bar owners to crack down on minors entering bars and consuming alcoholic beverages.

L OOKING A HEAD After implementing and assessing the initiatives above, the Community Action Council will provide a report to both the President of Sunnyvale University and city officials on how to move forward. If necessary, further measures will be taken to ensure the success of newly fostered alliances and partnerships.
