2. The fire precautions act was introduced in 1971 to protect service users from fire risks. Every company must apply for a fire certificate to ensure that they have the right fire precautions in place.

3. YOU MUST HAVE: Fire alarms – especially around the kitchen! Fire evacutation procedures – all staff and visitors MUST know this procedure! Routine procautions at night – switch off all electrical appliances! You wont like me when I’m angry!!!

4. Risk assessments must be carried out! You must: Identify sources which could start a fire Identify any flammable materials and store them away from ignition sources Identify staff that are at risk and reduce that risk Identify structures that could help fire to spread

5. You MUST fit fire detection systems into the workplace such as fire alarms. Occupied areas with people in close proximity may only need someone shouting a warning! All workplaces should ideally should have automatic detection and warning systems!

6. Every superhero must have an escape plan!! Lighting and marking exits should be considered in case of a power cut. When people are in the workplace, doors should not be locked as you will not be able to escape and so you will die If a single direction escape route is a corridor, self closing fire doors will need to be installed. Areas of concern should include doors (width and direction of opening), escape routes, lighting, signs, & escape times.

7. I have just saved this beautiful women because she didn’t have the correct fire fighting equipment in the workplace! You must have one 13A fire extinguisher per 200 square metres Extinguishers should be sited near to exit points, or near to the particular hazards they guard against. All staff must be aware of the location of fire fighting equipment.

8. I am the prince of Asgard and the guardian of Earth and I say that: All workplaces should have an emergency plan. This should include action to be taken, evacuation procedure, and arrangements for calling the fire brigade. In small workplaces such as a salon, a simple fire action plan notice could be all that is needed.
