THE VILLAGE THAT WENT HUNGRY WRITTEN BY CHAUNTIA MAYS Story ©2007 Chauntia Mays

There once was a princess. Her name was Princess Omar. Now Princess Omar was no ordinary mean or wicked princess, she was the sweetest most beautiful princess ever known. The kingdom she ruled was Tavajna.

One day a villager stopped by the princess’s castle to ask for a loaf of bread. “My princess, I come for a loaf of bread to feed my family”. And so the princess gave him a loaf of bread.

The next morning two more villagers ask the princess for two loaves of bread. “My princess, I come for two loaves of bread”. And so the princess gave them two loaves of bread.

The next day five villagers came up to the princess and asked her for five more loaves of bread.

She got curious and wondered why every day more villagers were coming up for bread. And so the princess visited the village with four carts of lots and lots of bread. The princess visited every house in the village and gave them four loaves of bread each.

Then the villagers realized they were running out of meat. And so two villagers went back up to the princess’ castle and asked her for three packages of meat. The princess said, “My villagers, tomorrow I will have five carts with packages of meat to give to you.” Then the villagers said, “Thank you, my princess!” and then left the castle.

As the princess said, she went to every house in the village and gave them five packages of meat. But she only brought a few at a time.

But princess realized she didn’t have enough food either. The princess went to the villagers and asked them for two packages of meat and two loaves of bread from three different villagers. The villagers said, “Yes, my princess. I will give you whatever you need for helping us.” And the princess said, “Oh, thank you! Thank you very much!”

So the princess went back home and the first thing she did was make her a ham sandwich!
