Do small businesses need an HR manager? Yes, many mangers or owners can handle the most aggressive dog but does not know how to handle the most aggressive human.

Recruitment Finding new people to work in veterinary medicine can be difficult. The field must have competitive pay It should offer benefits Recruit people at symposiums or CE events A manager should hire the right person for the job. All shifts must be fulfilled.

Absenteeism People who call into work without a good reason People who are sick should present a doctor’s note People who always call in sick can lower an entire team’s morale A manager should get involved and terminate the person (if needed) or find a solution

Job Descriptions New hire training on the company policies New hire training on SOPs Leadership training Professional development It is crucial to train a new hire. It can prevent a law suit. A manager should set aside 3 business days and train a new hire.

You need to hire people with experience in the field and knowledge about animals (chimpanzees). It could of lead to death of a human Great danger to a human

Not Understanding the Laws Ignoring the laws can cause a law suit to the company Discrimination Overtime FMLA (family medical leave act) Breast feeding / pumping at work (new law) Pregnancy Safety in the Work place Disability Military leave act Many more…

Not Creating a Clear Job Description You want to attract the right people for the job, so the description must be correct. We require a minimum of 2 years experience with exotic animals or a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science. Skills Training Education Minimum years experience Salary

Undocumented performance-based terminations You must document every conversation with an employee via a written verbal notice or a written final notice Failure to do so can lead to legal actions We have had difficulty firing people because of inadequate documentation Include: Date Description of notice Signatures
