Decision Making Skills- Steps that enable you to make healthful decisions Step 1: State the Situation Ask-What do I need to decide?; Who is involve?; Am I feeling pressured?; How much time do I have to decide? Step 2: List the Options Ask-What are all my options; ask trusted people for advise Step 3: Weigh the Possible Outcomes Weigh the consequences (pros/cons)…Use the HELP strategy to guide you choice Step 4: Consider Values Values will help you make good choices Step 5: Make a Decision/ACT Use everything to know at this point to decide /ACT Step 6: Evaluate Reflect on what happened…Was the outcome what you wanted?; How did it affect your health?; What did you learn?; Would you make the same choice again?

What does H-E-L-P stand for and what questions should you ask during this step of decision making? H (Healthful) Does this choice present any health risks? E (Ethical) Does this choice reflect personal values? L (Legal) Does this option violate any laws? P (Parent Approval) Would parent or guardians approve? Values- ideas, beliefs, and attitudes about what is important/they guide the way we live

Goals are Dreams set into action through the hard work and planning
Goal Setting Goals- Things you aim for that take planning and work *Whether you reach your goals, depends on the plans you make now (Goal Setting) Goals are Dreams set into action through the hard work and planning Short-term goal: accomplishments to reach in a short amount of time Long-term goal: final accomplishment or more time needed to achieve (a series of short-term goals)

How Can You Reach Your Goals?
Action Plan- multistep strategy to identify and achieve your goals Set a specific, realistic goal List the steps you will take to reach your goal Identify sources of help and support Set reasonable time frame for achieving your goal Track your progress (Check off short-term goals) Reward yourself (plan smaller rewards along the way)

Are you a smart buyer? Do you get a good quality product for your money? Health Consumer-someone who purchases or uses health product or services (professionals) Advertising-written or spoken media message designed to interest consumers in purchasing a product or service.
