Student Verification and Accountability System What is it? Overall Benefit to VCS Components of the System Challenges How it has helped? Questions
3
What is it? An electronic system that... accounts for where the school bus is located which students are on the bus where they get on and off the bus. The system involves the use of student identification cards and electronic equipment mounted on our school buses.
4
Overall Benefits Safety & Security (We can identify, verify and account for every student that gets on/off school bus) Customer Service (Faster response – instant & easy access) FTE and Medicaid – reduce/eliminate funding loss Bus Operators focus (Concentrate more on driving and student safety)
5
Student Ridership Verification and Accountability System
6
Components of the System GPS (tracks location of school bus) RFID Scanning Device w/ Keypad (Identifies students getting on/off school bus) Software (Monitor and track bus and student information)

10
Components of the System Scanner (RFID Cards ) 1. Elementary Students 2. Identified Special Needs (Elementary, Middle and High School Students) 3. Middle/High School Students with the same birth date Students swipe their identification card each time they board and exit the school bus *For most students there should be four (4) swipes each day

12
Components of the System Keypad (250) (Identifies students getting on/off school bus) Keypad is only used by middle and high School Students and elementary students that misplaced their card Students enter the month and day of their birthday (MMDD) into the keypad each and every time they board and exit the school bus *For most students there should be four (4) entries each day

14
Components of the System Software Bus and Student Activities (Real-Time) History Reports Student Reports (Details, Summaries, No Matches) Vehicle Reports (Arrival Time, Idling, Time and Mileage)
15
Complete Details on Student Ridership
16
We know instantly which students got on/off the bus at the bus stop and school
17
We have the ability to track bus location, speed, time of arrival and departure
19
Student Ridership Verification and Accountability System
20
FEFP Reporting Old Manual Reporting System Students board and exit bus Drivers attempt to identify and record every student getting on bus Drivers sign Bubble sheets Data is reported to State as usual
21
FEFP Reporting New Reporting System using Student Ridership System We electronically and automatically identify students Students identify themselves getting on and off the school bus with an RFID Card or by typing their birthday on a keypad Printed ridership sheet is signed by driver Data is reported to State as usual
22
FEFP Results (Survey Period 2) We compared student count numbers (automated vs. current manual system) With only having the system in place for about 2 Months Student Count Recovery Approx. 800 Students/$160,000

24
Challenges Bus Route Increase load time due to system Training More training for administrative staff RFID Cards Cards for BOs (validate system and which bus) Handling cards for special needs students Students Misplacing cards Chewing up cards Entering wrong birth date
25
Student Ridership Verification and Accountability System
26
How the system has helped? Locating missing students Verifying if a student rode the bus (No longer have to completely rely on driver) ID students on wrong bus ID students getting on/off at wrong stop Verifying speed and location of bus
