7 Routes through Probation Two routes: 1.Teacher Induction Scheme (TIS) funded 190 days – 3 year time limit guaranteed post with support 2.Flexible/Alternative Route 270 days apply for own work (supply) no guaranteed support

8 Probationers on the Flexible Route Can be employed by Local Authority or Independent Schools Can choose own Local Authority Can work part-time Must meet GTCS Standard for Full Registration

14 Probationer’s responsibilities Timetable CPD/CPL and the probation process Seek advice and guidance School’s policies and development plan Use the regular meetings with the supporter Review and reflect on teaching and learning Self-evaluate and monitor professional development Maintain a record of professional development Identify and record appropriate critical incidents and evidence to use as a focus of discussion with your supporter

18 Purpose of the SFR A clear and concise description of the professional qualities and capabilities probationer teachers are expected to attain A professional standard against which reliable and consistent recommendations and decisions can be made on the fitness of new teachers for full registration with GTC Scotland A clear and concise description of the professional qualities and capabilities fully registered teachers are expected to maintain and enhance throughout their careers A baseline standard of professional competence which applies to teachers throughout their careers

23 Initial Professional Development Action Plan (IPDAP) Bridging the gap between your ITE / Career Entry Profile

24 Interim 1 Initial Professional Development Action Plan Notes Your initial professional development action plan (IPDAP) should be completed by you in collaboration with your supporter and should be used to identify the initial focus for professional development covering the August to December period. For your Interim Profile, you should use your career entry profile / ITE profile during discussions about your IPDAP. For Final and (if required) Interim 2 Profiles, this section is an exact copy of your PDAP from your Interim 1.
