What will my kid learn in chemistry this year? How do electronegativity and ionization energy affect bond formation and substance properties? When 25g of octane is burned, how much carbon dioxide is formed, and how much energy is created? How do nuclear power plants work? How do atoms create light? Why are sugar and salt solids when water is liquid and carbon dioxide is a gas? How do molecules transfer heat energy?

Some policies to note Late Policy: only 6 chances /semester No change in assignment grade for late work When students are absent: Read and take notes on book pages If for sickness, etc, get an extra block for each block missed If for vacation, conservatory, work, etc: no extension – see me beforehand! Should check in when back at school

Grades Tests: 100-200 pts 1 retake per semester Labs: 15-50 pts Graded on accuracy Homework: 5 pts/day Often Homework Quizzes Essential Skills Quizzes: 5-15 pts Students keep trying until they learn it! Projects: 25-50 pts Extra Credit Opportunties: Max 20 pts/sem Several opportunities – esp. during breaks
