From 1993 to 1997, the occurrence of current (30-day) cigarette smoking rose by 27.8% 28.5% of college students are present smokers. 28% of college smokers began to smoke frequently at or after age 19. Half of the current college smokers had tried ineffectively to quit in the previous year.

Campaign materials include radio and print, fact sheets for those at risk and those diagnosed with COPD, as well as a guide for health care professionals.

There are recent FDA approval of inhaled medications for COPD. This has helped general health care practitioners to better understand how to diagnose and manage COPD. People should read the Journal of COPD Collaborate with other health care practitioners like physicians, nurses, and respiratory therapists, people with COPD, and other organizations including hospitals, professional societies, and voluntary health care organizations. Distribute campaign materials locally.
