5. WHO IS PIVATS FOR? Pupils who attend mainstream primary or secondary or special schools, short stay schools, learning support units or resourced provision. Pupils who may be out of school as a result of exclusion, medical needs or school phobia.

6. WHAT DOES PIVATS DO? It supports inclusion It promotes value-added measurement It promotes school self-evaluation and improvement It develops individual, cohort, subject and year group profiles of performance for monitoring, comparative and target- setting purposes

To do an assessment “best fit” the sample of work to the National Curriculum Level Look for which of the performance indicators can be evidenced Score as Level then letter (‘e’ = 1 indicator and ‘a’ = 5 indicators). Information for various aspects should be entered on Individual Pupil Profile (IPP).

10. Don’t “play fast and loose” with the performance indicators or you will end up “in a pickle.”
