3 BC2: Creating a Resume  Guidelines for Resumes: Length  1-2 pages; at least 10-12 lines if on a second page Text  Generally 12-14 point  Clear, easy to read font  Mostly phrases rather than full sentences

4 BC2: Creating a Resume Emphasis— emphasize things that…  are most relevant to the position.  show your superiority to other applicants.  are recent.  Focus on achievements!

9 BC2: Creating a Resume  Name, Address, Email and Phone.  Career Objective or Position Sought Make it like job a description an employer might use in a job listing. Job title or short to-infinitive statement. Put it after your address, before the first major heading.

13 BC2: Creating a Resume  Education: (Cont.) Reverse chronological order Drop high school once graduated from college; never include primary school. Include study abroad. List professional certifications under ‘Education’ or in a separate category. Include your GPA (if it’s good).

14 BC2: Creating a Resume  Education: (Cont.) Optional:  List short descriptive titles courses you’ve taken that may be relevant to the job you’re applying for.  List them under a sub-title like ‘Courses related to Management’ or, list number of hours spent studying various subjects.

Participation in organized groups that demonstrates leadership, teamwork, or specialized skills related to the job you’re applying for.  Student government.  School clubs.  Intramural sports.  Religious groups. Membership in professional associations.
