The Provinces of Lombardy PEOPLE

Density in Lombardy

Lombardy (about 10 million people) is the most populated area in Italy. Its density is one of the highest in Europe Its people represent 16.15% of the Italian population and live on 7.9% of the Italian area. With a density of 402.5 inhabitants / km ² (compared to the Italian average of 196 inhabitants). The most populated province is Milan, followed by Brescia and Bergamo.

Immigration

Immigration deeply affected demographics of this region in the last century. After World War 2 it was mainly caused by people coming from other Italian regions (North- East and South).

-Foreign population in Lombardy is about a quarter of the Italian one (24.7%). At the end of last century, a larger number of migrants started to reach Lombardy and Italy, from countries outside Europe, mainly from Africa, Asia, South America and Eastern Europe. - Migration is still underway and is an important debated issue. Now the region is characterized by dense urbanization. The population, however, slowly decreases in density towards the lowlands, and more sharply towards the mountains but not in the main Alpine valleys.

Where they live

A third in Milan (200,000), if you consider the province the percentage rises to 53% (for a total of units 290-300000); smaller presence in the province of Brescia (almost 75,000), Bergamo (50,000), Varese (just over 40,000). Values higher than 20,000 units in the provinces of Mantova and Como, while it drops to 17-18000 units in the facilities of Cremona and Pavia, 14000 Lecco, Lodi, and 11,000 to just over 3000 in the province of Sondrio.

The Albanians have retained leadership in the provinces of Pavia and Lodi, and have substituted the Moroccans in the province Sondrio. These are passed to the summit at Varese, Como, Brescia and Cremona (shared with the Indians), confirming the first place also in Bergamo, Mantova and Lecco. The province of Milan is distinguished not only by the intensity of the irregularity, which is higher than elsewhere, to be the only exception to the general superiority of the combination Albania and Morocco. Among the municipalities outside the capital are the dominant Romanians, while the Municipality of Milan Peruvians (also harassed by the Ecuadorian) have taken the leadership to the Egyptians.
