This Quarter the Thirteenth Sabbath Offering is going to the Southern Asia-Pacific Division Information adapted from Adventist Mission, Youth and Adult Magazine and the SDA Encyclopedia.

Before learning more about those projects next week, let’s learn about another country in the Southern Asia-Pacific Division, Bangladesh. Encarta
6
Seventh-day Adventists began work in the territory of Bangladesh in the late 1800s, when colporteurs from Calcutta, India, entered the area. Bangladesh
7
Bangladesh, one of the world’s poorest countries, suffers from overpopulation and frequent flooding and cyclones that destroy crops and claim thousands of lives. More than 50 percent of the population lives in poverty, and the literacy rate is about 38 percent. Flooding in Bangladesh
8
Bangladesh is predominantly Muslim (86 percent) and Hindu (12 percent), but the country’s constitution still guarantees a degree of religious freedom. Christians of all denominations account for less than 1 percent of the population. Muslim boys studying the Qu’ran

A comprehensive church and school building program has given vital support to new church members and congregations established by Global Mission pioneers in Bangladesh. There are now several beautiful schools throughout the country. These include Monosopara and the Seventh-day Adventist Maranatha Seminary (SAMS), which educate thousands of children and care for hundreds of orphans. Students at Monosopara welcome visitors with a traditional demonstration. Photo by Gary Krause
10
Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh, is crowded with more than 10 million people. Until recently Adventists had only one church in the entire metropolitan region.
11
As a result of a past Thirteenth Sabbath offering the union has been able to purchase 3 condominiums that are now "house churches." Each of these churches seat 40-50 people and are reaching out to their communities. With the help of Global Mission and Gospel Outreach there are a total of 7 new "house churches" in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, which is a great breakthrough. Thank you for your continuing support of missions. Your offerings do make a difference! Photo and text by Rick McEdward

How would you feel?

38
In our lesson today we find out what happened when God asked Moses to do a job he didn’t feel up to.
39
The bush was still burning, and Moses doubted he would ever be the same again.
40
God, also known as the I AM, had just told him that He wanted him to go back to Egypt.
41
He was to tell the rulers there that God wanted them to let His people go.
42
They are never going to agree to give up all those slaves, Moses thought to himself. I tried to rescue my people years ago.
43
Instead of thanking me when I killed the Egyptian who was beating the Hebrew slave the Israelites made fun of me, and the Egyptians went after me. I barely escaped with my life.
44
God had just demonstrated to Moses three miraculous signs he could use to impress the Egyptians.
45
He could throw down his staff and it would turn into a snake.
46
He could put his hand inside his cloak, and it would turn Photo by Neva MacPhee white and diseased.
47
And if neither of those signs worked, Moses could pour water from the Nile over the ground, and it would turn into blood.
48
But Moses had seen the magicians do similar things in Egypt. He didn’t think the Egyptians would be impressed.
49
Moses had been out in the country, herding sheep for 40 years now.
50
He no longer felt he was the one to deliver Israel.
51
He wasn’t even sure he could speak the Egyptian language anymore.
52
Sheep were about the only audience he didn’t get nervous around.
53
But Moses couldn’t stand around feeling sorry for himself long.
54
God was speaking again. Moses shaded his eyes and looked toward the ever- burning bush.
55
“Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the Lord?”
56
“Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.”* *Some of the conversation in this story is quoted from Exodus 4, NIV.
57
God was offering Moses everything he would need to accomplish the task. But still Moses was afraid.
58
“O Lord, please send someone else to do it.”
59
The bush crackled and burned. I may have complained too much, Moses thought. I just know God is not pleased. Why am I so unwilling to trust Him on this?
60
God spoke again. “What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet you, and his heart will be glad when he sees you.”
61
His brother was coming! Moses was amazed. He hadn’t seen his brother for many, many years. It would be great to be together again.
62
And God was right, Aaron knew how to talk. In fact, together they would be a great team. Moses’ fears began to go away.
63
“Moses,” God continued from the bush, “you shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do.”
64
“He will speak to the people for you and it will be as if he were your mouth and as if you were God to him.” Moses was starting to see the possibilities.
65
God wasn’t letting Moses off easily. He was still the one who God was going to speak through.
66
God had given him talents of leadership and God was asking him to use them to bless his own people, the Israelites.
67
Moses felt humbled that God was still calling him after the mistakes he had made and the fear he had shown.
68
The bush crackled louder. “But take this staff in your hand,” God spoke to Moses, “so you can perform miraculous signs with it.”
69
Moses humbly leaned down to pick up his staff. When he stood straight again, the bush was no longer burning.
70
The sand under his bare feet started to feel chilly with approaching evening. Moses put his sandals back on his feet.
71
God has promised to teach me what I should do, Moses thought. He is even willing to send someone with different talents than I have to help me.
72
He headed back toward his flock. Just when I thought the rest of my life would be spent calmly herding sheep,
73
God calls me to heard people. Moses smiled to himself.

86
In our Bible story, Moses didn’t feel he had all the skills he needed to lead Israel out of slavery. Do you think that you have no special abilities or talents to do what God asks you to do?
87
I’d like everyone in class to take a piece of paper and pen or pencil. Write your name down the left side vertically. For instance, for Susie Smith - S U S I E S M I T H
88
Then, pass the papers around so everyone in class can write one or two skills, talents or abilities that they see in that person. Do it acronym style, so that the talent begins with a letter of the person’s name. For instance, for Susie - S smiles a lot U understanding S I and E S so M I T on H
89
When we’re finished, give everyone their paper back. How did the talents or qualities listed by your fellow students surprise you? Go ahead and read your own paper now.
90
How did it make you feel to read the lists?
91
How can you serve God in the coming week with the abilities listed on your sheet? Even if you didn’t think you had any talents, God has equipped each of us to serve Him in some way. God is much more interested in our availability than our ability since He’s the one who gives us the abilities in the first place. He just wants us to be willing to be used by Him.
