Early Thermometers The first thermometers were called thermoscopes
Galileo Galilei, 1593, early water thermometer Italian inventor Santorio Santorio was the first inventor to put numbers on thermometers 1714, Gabriel Fahrenheit: first mercury thermometer- what we still use!

Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit
German Physicist 1709- invented alcohol thermometer 1724, introduced the Fahrenheit temperature scale

Anders Celsius Celsius temperature scale aka: "centigrade" scale.
Centigrade means divided into 100 This scale has 100 degrees between freezing point of water and boiling point of water

Lord William Thomson Kelvin
Invented Kelvin Scale- 1848 Measures extremes of hot and cold 0 degrees Kelvin= absolute zero
