SACOSAN was borne out of a shared desire (expressed by the Govt. of Bangladesh, in partnership with WSSCC, UNICEF, WSP, WHO, DANIDA, DFID, ADB, UNDP, Water Aid, Plan Bangladesh) to priorities sanitation and hygiene amongst the political and technical groups working in the region. SACOSAN was borne out of a shared desire (expressed by the Govt. of Bangladesh, in partnership with WSSCC, UNICEF, WSP, WHO, DANIDA, DFID, ADB, UNDP, Water Aid, Plan Bangladesh) to priorities sanitation and hygiene amongst the political and technical groups working in the region. The first SACOSAN was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh in October 2003; The first SACOSAN was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh in October 2003; Over 300 delegates and guests from 9 Country Delegations (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka) and other local and international organizations participated in the conference. 2003: GOB declared Sanitation for all by 2010 2003:National Baseline Survey carried out for sanitation in Bangladesh. 2004:Union Councils assigned to look after rural water and sanitation program. 2004:GoB year marked 20% allocation of ADP grants for sanitation development focusing to hardcore poor. 2004:National Sanitation Secretariat established. 2004: Scaling-up of Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) Program initiated in Bangladesh. 2004 Sanitation Task Force established with specific terms of reference.
