REVISION TIME….. DUE TOMORROW

Tired is a mixture of passing colors as your eyes close and that beautiful beach beckons you to keep it company Tired has the sound of snickering students listening to the slight snore of Billy taking a nap while the teacher lectures on and on…and on Tired smells like the sweet soft silent aroma of a pillow waiting for your head to deflate it It has that awkward taste of saliva as you yawn continuously staring at the clock waiting for those loud brrrrings, signaling the end of this boring class Tired takes you down into its deep abyss, giving the feeling of not being able to do anything that feeling of defeat, of destruction, of disappointment After this thing, this immensely powerful thing sees that your body is limp and you just can’t take it anymore it lets you drift slowly back to the surface Tired - Sarah Black

A 2 ND LEVEL CONCRETE ABSTRACT POEM CONSIST OF: a title (the topic) 5 stanzas (each 3+ lines or longer); 1 stanza for each of the 5 senses: sight, sound, smell, feel, taste. Incorporate imagery, poetic sound devices Precise word choice & rhythm. The final draft must be printed neatly on the form provided or typed onto its own sheet of paper. Attach to the final draft: 1 st level poem all evidence of revision (rough drafts) Haiku II Revise your best 2 Haiku from Haiku I for: INTENSE IMAGERY 5 - 7 - 5 syllable count Poetic Sound Devices (AVOID RHYME) HAIKU REVISION TIPS: Don’t waste a haiku syllable. Don’t “fill up” the syllables. Describe then cut out words to the allowed syllable count. Use each syllable wisely. Each line in a haiku should contain imagery A haiku is like a zoomed in snap shot, not a wide angle shot that tells an entire story or a video. Submit your final drafts on the provided form “HAIKU PART II “ Attach ALL YOUR WORK (Part I & Part II) to the back.

PRACTICING FOR AN ALLITERATION COMPETITION In your groups count off from 1-4 to assign roles. Use the script that has your part bolded. You may highlight or mark on it if you wish. 1.EVERYONE READ THROUGH THE SCRIPT SILENTLY ON THEIR OWN. 2.READ JUST YOUR PART OUT LOUD TO YOURSELF, WORK YOUR MOUTH AROUND THE TRICKIER PARTS. 3.GET TOGETHER IN YOUR GROUPS. 4.IN YOUR GROUPS, FACING EACH OTHER, QUIETLY READ THROUGH THE SCRIPT TOGETHER. KEEP THE VOLUME DOWN.

DANA’S DEAD COMPETITION GROUPS WILL DRAW NUMBERS TO DETERMINE COMPETITION ORDER. EACH GROUP WILL PERFORM THE SCRIPT IN FRONT OF THE CLASS. THE GROUP TO MAKE THE FEWEST MISTAKES, WITHIN WHAT IS CONSIDERED A REASONABLE TIME FRAME, WINS. MRS. SAUNDERS WILL ACT AS THE ONLY JUDGE. IF THERE IS A TIE, I WILL CONSIDER THE SPEED WITH WHICH IT WAS READ. IF THAT DOESN’T SOLVE THE TIE, THERE WILL BE A TIE BREAKER NEXT WEEK, USING “ROBBING ROGER”
