The agreements ended the official hostilities of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, and established armistice lines between Israel and the West Bank The Arab governments at this point refused to set up a State of Palestine.

Population Movements, After 1948 Jews from Arab lands: 856,000 Jews left their homes in Arab countries from 1948 until the early 1970s. Approximately 600,000 resettled in Israel. Palestinians from Jewish lands: between 700,000 and 750,000 Palestinian Arabs fled or were expelled from the area that became Israel but could not settle in the neighboring Arab states and became what is known today as the Palestinian refugees.
