3 3 UN Seminar Spatial Analysis, Nairobi, Kenya, 14-17 Sept 2010 Data Accessibility Stats SA aims for broadest possible dissemination. Products & Services must be more accessible, affordable, effective and efficient. No cost recovery from Users for data collected, products developed and standard services provided. Costs are met from allocated funds voted by Parliament. Costs are applied for more than one copy of the data to avoid misuse or waste.

4 4 UN Seminar Spatial Analysis, Nairobi, Kenya, 14-17 Sept 2010 Data Accessibility Costs are applied for products or services outside the standard range. Such costs can also be avoided if authorization in granted, in writing, by the Statistician-General or his authorized nominee. All data, products and services made available via Stats SA website is accessible by Users at no cost. No charge for initial training. Subsequent training will be charged i.e. standard hourly rate.

5 5 UN Seminar Spatial Analysis, Nairobi, Kenya, 14-17 Sept 2010 Confidentiality Through the Stats Act. No dissemination of unit records (except 10% sample). No dissemination of EA-level data (except small area data i.e. certain EAs combined and only limited variables) Random rounding. Use of data in a manner that does not maliciously compromise any persons, etc.

All organs of State have unhindered use, without further permission. Use by a third party (outside the State), the third party must be made aware of the State Copyright and the ownership of the information by the State.
