2 SECC – What’s it all about? Only statutorily authorized workplace campaign for the state agency and higher education employees throughout Texas It’s an easy, effective and cost-efficient way to give to charities. Contributions help improve the quality of life. The campaign supports a wide variety of causes. All charities in the campaign must meet strict eligibility criteria. The campaign is for state employees and is governed by state employees. Began in 1994 – raised $2,027,751; In 2011, raised over $9.3M statewide!!! 2011 Capital Area SECC raised over $2.1M REMINDER: Participation in the SECC is strictly voluntary!

5 SECC Timeline Jan. 31 st : Local Campaign Manager application deadline Mar. 16 th : Local charity applications deadline May-June: Campaign materials creation July-Aug.: Coordinator trainings/campaign planning meetings Sept. 1 st : 1 st day of campaign Oct. 31 st : Last day of campaign Nov. 15 th : Deadline for submission of pledge forms to payroll office Jan.-Dec. (2013): Deductions made from paychecks for pledges

6 How are charities admitted? Charity applications are sent out in January and are due in March Applications are screened by state employees (LEC) Each charity must meet the following requirements: Health and human service organization IRS Form 990 501(c)3 certification Secretary of State certification Audit (or accountant's review, depending on revenue) Administrative fees 25% or less

7 What is a coordinator? As a coordinator you will organize and lead your agency’s workplace giving campaign. Responsible for: Promoting the SECC in your workplace. Serving as the distribution point for all materials and the collection point for all pledges. Encouraging enthusiasm for workplace giving by setting up special meetings and/or use already available avenues to disburse information on the SECC. Attending trainings, keeping contact with your Campaign Associate and Campaign Manager.
