ECS for Front-End crates MARATON

2 Introduction Front-End crates are powered by MARATON power supplies, located on the platform, at the back of each Front-End crate, which have to be powered on before taking data. One MARATON power supplies consists in 4 channel, all of them must be switched on/off in parallel. MARATON power supplies are accessible via INFDAI1 PVSS project or via the main ECS LHCb project, which allows to switch on/off all or part of the power supplies.

3 Definitions RCM: Remote Control Module, the electronics board which controls remotly the MARATON power supply. Power Rectifier: transforms 220 AC into 380 DC

4 Location of hardware: plateform Maratons are inside the cavern: L3BXX U L3BXX M L3BXX L

5 Location of hardware: plateform L3A01L3A11

6 Location of hardware: B1B01 rack Second Rack behind barracks, first level Rack containing RCM and Power Rectifiers for CALO Maratons. This rack is only used by CALO.

7 Rack B1B01 (CALO RCMs)‏ Power rectifiers for C-side: corresponding MARATON is identified by a label on each box RCM Crate for C-side Power rectifiers for A-side: corresponding MARATON is identified by a label on each box RCM Crate for A-side

8 How to switch on a crate from PVSS Before switching OFF a crate, ask the Shift Leader to stop the run. Open the “Wiener Maraton Crates” status panel:  G:\online\ecs\Shortcuts311\INF\INFDAI1\INFDAI1_UI_lbRackMaratonC rateStatus.lnk (WINDOWS)‏  /group/online/ecs/Shortcuts311/INF/INFDAI1/INFDAI1_UI_lbRackMara tonCrateStatus.sh (LINUX) ‏

9 Click to switch ON/OFF

Alternative method: from the main ECS project Open LHCb FSM tree panel:  G:\online\ecs\Shortcuts311\LHCb\ECS\ECS_U I_FSM.lnk (WINDOWS)‏  /group/online/ecs/Shortcuts311/LHCb/ECS/E CS_UI_FSM.sh (LINUX) ‏

In the DAI tree, right click on PRS/ECAL/HCAL_DAI This will open: Click on the Side

Locate the crate to switch ON/OFF, and click on the « READY » or « OFF » button. Select the « Switch_OFF » and « Swich_ON »

13 In case of problems In case of a DSS Alarm on the calo platform, power will be cut at the source (rack B1B01). Before being able to switch on the Maratons back:  DSS piquet (168000) and the run chief (161868) have to be called to switch back on the power of the rack B1B01 (TDM Drawer)‏  The crate of the RCM has to be powered on manually going in the cavern  Power rectifiers have to be verified they are all ON

14 In case of problems If one crate has to stay off for a given time (changing the boards inside, problem with the boards, etc...), to prevent from accidental switch on from PVSS:  Switch off manually the corresponding power rectifier  Write in the log book why  Put a sticker on the power rectifier with your name Corollary: if a rectifier is OFF, look in the logbook why before switching it ON.
