Shania && Sydney PREVENTION OF TEEN PREGNANCY

Problem with Teen Pregnancy There are a number of issues that come with Teen Pregnancy. Teen pregnancy causes a lot of stress for both the mother and father, and even their parents. The teenage mothers or fathers are often unprepared for parenthood and drop out of school, taking low- paying jobs and never completing their education. Children of teenage parents typically have more illnesses in the first year of life. The many teen mothers have no jobs, cars, or own a home. Nationwide, pregnant teens are costing tax payers 38 billion dollars a year. This needs to stop, its ruining lives for teenagers throughout the US.

Our Solution For Teen Pregnancy Statistics from the 1990’s indicate that there are approximately 10 million girls in the United States. Approximately 1 out of every 10 girls aged 15 to 19 years becomes pregnant each year. We are going to convince our female peers to go on StayTeen.org on May 4 th, which is the tenth annual National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. You can find out more about this on http://www.thenationalcampaign.org/default.aspxStayTeen.org http://www.thenationalcampaign.org/default.aspx We can convince more school boards to teach comprehensive sex education, instead of the abstinence-only programs. Hopefully, teens will see that teen pregnancy is 100% preventable.

Who we wrote to: We wrote to President Obama because Teen Pregnancy a nationwide problem and the money we spend on teen moms comes out of our taxes which the government controls, which he has somewhat control of. (the government) We wrote to Jack Markell because he is the governor so he can address our state government and school boards to let them know how to prevent Teen Pregnancy, instead of paying out welfare checks from our tax money. Barack ObamaJack Markell

Our Letter: Dear President Obama: Did you know that three quarters of a million teens between the ages 15 and 19 become pregnant each year? I’m guessing you would know because as the President, you know what is a growing problem in our nation. Teen pregnancy is partially a private matter between the family and the mother-to- be, but when that pregnant teen mother, and all of the other teen mothers are affecting our money, don’t you think something should be done about this? Most people know that right now our economy is in a state that is less than acceptable, but is coming back. If anything, why are we wasting $38 billion on pregnant teenage welfare? If anything don’t you think that you should do a nationwide campaign to encourage comprehensive sex education instead of abstinence-only programs? If you could get back with us, we would love to hear your opinion on teen pregnancy and what you are doing to change this in our nation. Let’s stop the epidemic, and offer our knowledge. Sincerely, Shania Trammell and Sydney Ricketts

Our Next Letter: Dear Jack Markell: Did you know that three quarters of a million teens between the ages 15 and 19 become pregnant each year? We’re guessing you would know because as the State Governor, you know what a growing problem in our state is. Teen pregnancy is partially a private matter between the family and the mother-to-be, but when that pregnant teen mother, and all of the other teen mothers are affecting our money, don’t you think something should be done about this? Most people know that right now our economy is in a state that is less than acceptable, but is coming back. If anything, why are we wasting $28 million on pregnant teenage welfare? We think there should be more funding going towards preventing the issue, instead of just paying out welfare money to the pregnant teenagers. We want you to set up a campaign that says to the schools that they should be teaching more about sex education, and how to prevent this. By this, we mean teen pregnancy, which is taking money away from our state that could be used on something useful, such as road paving and fixing up Delaware state parks. If you could get back with us, we would love to hear your opinion on teen pregnancy and what you are doing to change this in our nation. Let’s stop the epidemic, and offer our knowledge. Sincerely, Shania Trammell and Sydney Ricketts
