CHALLENGES Placing our female students at sea Paucity of cadet beths creates a bottle neck effect (unemployment) Attracting the right calibre lecturing staff (Master’s degree & Master Unlimited / Chief Engineer CoC) Non-recognition of CoC by CPUT (SAQA evaluation ?) Sourcing funding to develop lecturing staff abroad to Master’s degree level Updating the TRANSAS simulator to satisfy the revised STCW Manila requirements No dedicated, SAMSA accredited, MEWT to integrate theoretical & practical training
