1
Stalin’s new Russia A poem by the Industrial Worker
2
So there was our new leader Stalin Who promised peace bread and land; But the workers who worked under him Underwent the new Five Year Plans.
3
The USSR was lagging behind others We wanted to be stronger than before; So Stalin rallied all the country’s workers He had us enthusiastic right to the core.
4
Factories and men sprung towards the sky Empowered by the new idea of socialism; Every industry set their own targets high Even the individual workers had their sum.
5
Overwhelmed by bombs from the media And I too went for the goods of the plan; Inspired by Stakhanov who did 14 times extra New markets and opportunities rose after it began.
6
And as we reflect many consider it a win For the production levels rose up beyond; There were huge accomplishments within Our newfound nation standing strong.
7
But who questions the propaganda said? Is it really better for the state? Who considers the workers fates? Who knows their problems and fate?
8
I work long hours, and I’m sacked if I’m late But I can’t say anything because of the secret police; There’s slave labour and camps for those with mistakes The leaders live in lavish while our suffer does not cease.
9
And it’s ironic about how they promised That we could live like human beings; Our living conditions were the darkest They just ignored our personal feelings.
10
The leader leads with a heart of steel A poorly organised programme to use us for free work; I’m sick and feverish admist the lies of appeal Who knows what other torture within may lurk.
