3. Definition of a Cover Letter A cover letter introduces you and your resume to a reader. It gives you an opportunity to expand on material in the resume or include other experiences and qualifications.

4. What a cover letter includes: Your name, address, and phone number. The date. Name, title, and address, of the person receiving it. The purpose of the letter – to go with your resume, to ask for an interview, to inquire about a position.

5. What the Cover Letter Includes Cont’d… A brief statement of your interest in the school, job, or program for which you are applying. Highlights from your resume along with other pertinent information. Mention of follow-up steps you plan to take. (ex: calling to arrange for an interview or inquire further.)

6. And it includes… How and where you can be reached for an interview or more information. A thank you. Formal Closing, Signature and your name typed out again at the bottom.
