INTRODUCTION In an ordinary hand pump a lever is used to pump out the fluid which requires larger work load. This is the modification of ordinary hand pump in which we have used a crankshaft instead of the lever. Our pump can be operated by one hand itself.
3
INITIAL DESIGN This is the initial design made by us.
In this pump we replaced the lever with the crank shaft. We kept the discharge at the top of the cylinder thus work load get decreased here.
4
MECHANISM The mechanism used here is single slider crank mechanism
In this piston acts as a slider. Crank shaft gives the rotating motion.
5
DESIGN CALCULATION Pressure built inside the cylinder
(P) = ( W/Ao ) + Q*g*h Stroke Volume (V) = (∏/4)* di2 *L Moment on the flange (M) = W crank * L flange Connecting Rod length (L) = 1.5*R Load required =70N to pull the piston Pressure (P) = bar Discharge =615.75mm2 Area Discharge =0.5 Litres volume Moment on =1300 N-mm the flange

MATERIAL SELECTION CYLINDER HEAD MATERIAL USED: CAST IRON (GRADE 25)
YOUNG’S =1X105 N/mm2 MODULUS TENSILE STRESS =250 N/mm2 BRINELL =220 HARDNESS
7
MATERIAL SELECTION CYLINDER MATERIAL USED: Stainless Steel
YOUNG’S =2.1X105 N/mm2 MODULUS TENSILE STRESS =700 N/mm2 BRINELL =241 HARDNESS
8
MATERIAL SELECTION OTHER COMPONENTS MATERIAL USED: MILD STEEL
YOUNG’S =2.1*105N/mm MODULUS TENSILE STRESS =700 N/mm2 BRINELL = HARDNESS
9
FINAL DESIGN The crank and connecting rod should be designed first
Based on that supporting brackets are designed Finally all fabrication calculations are made and final design is completed

ASSEMBLY Piston is mounted inside the cylinder.
The head and bottom is screwed between the cylinder. Crank and connecting rod are screwed together. Crank assembly and cylinder assembly is screwed together with supporting rod. All the accessories are assembled finally
