4. Why did I end up in the Jungle? IICD sends Consultants and other ICT resources to Africa for short projectinterventions Altran is partner of IICD and gives their ICT staff opportunity to get involved in IICD projects IICD has good concepts and policy how to act in developing countries My big Curiousity

Lessons learned Valuable people, committed at first but there is a need for strong follow-up Appointments (projectmanagement) Valuable resources accept positions abroad after being trained Need to understand the way life is organised in the specific country (influence of “ chiefs ”) etc. Impact that diseases illness (of familiymembers) have on business Business – ICT should work as one team Jumo

Teddy Nyambe - Open Source Innitiative (OSI) "ICTs in Africa present an opportunity for development both in areas of good governance, social and economic development however the challenge is lack of infrastructure and technical skilled human resource to develop and support projects" For me as usual John, I believe technology is what will make a difference and close the gap between the rich counties and the developing ones! 48. Nchimunya Hamakando (OSI) ICT in Africa is developing, though still lagging behind partly due to unavailability of equipment which I think is as a result of high cost of equipment and services. Most people don't earn much yet equipment and tools are more expensive than they are in developed countries. Some schools have modern computers while others may have outdated machines or non at all. Most people who completed their High School before 2002 and those that didn't complete High School at- all may not get the chance to learn to use or even learn about ICT to it's fullest because they don't know the potential thereof. Simon Mugala (former OSI) People in africa generally and zambia in particular are discovering how ICT tools are enhancing their quality of life and easing there input in making things done. this realisation has brought about both social and business opportunities for people in ICT fraternity and other fields. the application of ICTs have been hampered by many challenges in africa to mention a few, redtape from authority who are mainly policy makers, and a lot of lip service from them and little action, luck of capacities for implementors of ICTs, luck of resources such as capital. with such challenges yet we have seen a growing number of ICTs projects and endeavors suceed. this gives us hope and belief that with a lot of effort we will surely accrue the benefit of using ICTs. with kind Regards from Bishop of Mongu.
