5. Classroom Routines Coming to Class on Time and Prepared:
Early entry bell at 8:15 am.
Attendance after the playing of O’Canada at 8:30 am.
Lockers before classes begin (end of recess)

Communication Folder –sent home on Friday’s with school handouts and student work samples

7. Homework Expectations
YRDSB Homework Policy for Grade 5:
Maximum 50 minutes of homework 4 nights/week.
Homework supports classroom learning.
Homework includes reading (20 minutes per day).
No homework assigned over school holidays (e.g., Winter Break) or Significant Faith Days.
Homework completion is reported on in the Learning Skills section of the Report Card.
Red Flag – Your child never has homework. Your child always has lots of homework.
Some Suggestions for Parents/Guardians:
Check and sign your child’s agenda (and/or check classroom website.
Establish and maintain a daily homework routine.
Provide support, suggestions, and encouragement but let your child do his/her own work.
Contact a teacher if problems or questions come up.

10. Achievement Levels Level 4 (A- to A+) Level 3 (B- to B+)
The students has demonstrated the required knowledge and skills with a high degree of effectiveness. Achievement surpasses the provincial standard.
Level 3 (B- to B+)
The students has demonstrated the required knowledge and skills with considerable effectiveness. Achievement meets the provincial standard.
Level 2 (C- to C+)
The students has demonstrated the required knowledge and skills with some effectiveness. Achievement approaches the provincial standard.
Level 1 (D- to D+)
The students has demonstrated the required knowledge and skills with limited effectiveness. Achievement falls much below the provincial standard. R
The student has not demonstrated the required knowledge and skills. Extensive remediation is required. I
Insufficient evidence to assign a letter grade.

Two mindsets – Growth & Fixed
People who believe intelligence or ability is fixed often avoid challenges, are afraid of making mistakes, and often give up.
People with a growth mindset believe that intelligence and ability can improve with effort, and are more likely to work hard, accept mistakes, and find success.
We want to promote a Growth Mindset, praising process, and embracing mistakes as a sign of learning.

18. Parent Involvement
There are so many ways for you to help your child to be successful in school. These include:
Talk to your child about school.
Read with your child
Look at your child’s agenda/class website every day and Communication Folder on Friday.
Help your child establish and maintain a homework routine
Have a regular bed-time routine.
Pack nutritious meals and eat breakfast. If time is a concern, the Breakfast Club is an option.
Set high but realistic expectations for your child’s academic achievement and behaviour.
Communicate with the school when necessary.
