The Sun The Sun is the biggest star in the solar system
The Sun The Sun is the biggest star in the solar system. The Earth and other celestial bodies orbit around the Sun. It is around 150 million km away from the Earth. The Sun was formed 4650 million years ago and is made up from dust and wastes left by previous generations stars.
4
Mercury Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun and also de smallest of the solar system. Mercury's surface is similar from that of the Moon, with craters due to the impact of meteorites.
5
Venus Venus is both the closest planet to Earth and the planet closest in size to Earth.
6
The Earth The Earth was formed 4550 years ago, and around 1000 million years later life appeared. It is home to over eight million species. in its oceans and began to affect its atmosphere and surface, promoting the proliferation of aerobic as well as anaerobic organisms and causing the formation of the atmosphere's ozone layer.
7
Mars Mars, also called the Red Planet, is the last of the terrestrial planets. It receives it's name from the fact that its surface is all covered with iron oxide which gives it the red colour.
8
Jupiter Diameter: km
9
Comparative of Jupiter, the Sun, and the Earth.
Density, mass and volume: Its mass is 2,5 times all other planets masses in the solar system combined all together ×10(27) kg, but 0,001 times the mass of the sun. Even knowing this its density is 1.326 g/cm3 which is lower than any of the terrestrial planets because its volume is ×10(15) km3.
10
Interesting facts: Jupiter has 67 natural satellites and the biggest of this satellites is called Ganymede which is bigger than Mercury. Jupiter is the largest of the gas giants, it is made of: 89,8% of hydrogen, 10% of helium and other gases.
11
Saturn Diameter: km
12
Its diameter is 9,5 times the Earth one, and 0,083 the one of the sun.
Density: 0.687 g/cm3 Mass: ×1026 kg Volume: ×1014 km3
13
Interesting facts: Saturn is classified as a gas giant because the exterior is predominantly composed of gas and it lacks a definite surface, although it may have a solid core. Saturn has a prominent ring system that consists of nine continuous main rings and three discontinuous arcs, composed mostly of ice particles with a smaller amount of rocky debris and dust.
14
Uranus Diameter: km
15
Its diameter is 4 times the Earth one.
Density: 1.27 g/cm3 Mass: ×10(25) kg Volume: 6.833×10(13) km3
16
Interesting facts: Uranus was also the first planet discovered with a telescope. It is the only planet whose name is derived from a figure from Greek mythology rather than Roman mythology like the other planets.
17
Neptune Diameter: 49528km
18
Its diameter is a little less than 4 times the Earth one.
Density: 1.638 g/cm3 Mass: ×10(26) kg Volume: 6.254×10(13) km3
19
Ineteresting facts: Neptune's outer atmosphere is one of the coldest places in the Solar System, with temperatures at its cloud tops approaching 55 Kelvin (−218 °C).
20
COMETS AND ASTEROIDS
21
Asteroids are clasified by the precious metals they have, some of them are made of water and ice. An asteroid can be dangerous if it collides with a planet
22
Kuipers belt: is in the outer part of the solar system and has the existence of frozen gases such as methane, ammonia,ect... Its called kuiper belt because a of the astronomer Gerard Kuiper who discovered it.
