2  To encourage student/athletes to make a strong commitment to academics and athletics;  To encourage student/athletes to conduct themselves in a manner which brings credit to themselves and New Canaan School;  To promote the development of self-discipline and high academic/ athletic expectations;

3  We prepare to be successful. We do not measure our success by wins and loses.  We are interested in consistency. Working to match student interest and enthusiasm each season ..(It’s always someone’s senior year)

4  Participation in Interscholastic Athletics requires a significant commitment.  The Freshman, Junior Varsity programs function as a transition to Varsity competition.  Varsity participation is based on ability and requires a significant commitment of time.

8  Avoid hazing or other written or verbal attacks of any students or staff members  Demonstrate self-control and mutual respect at all times  Avoid the use of profanity, abusive language or gestures in dealing with opponents, officials or spectators  Accept victory with grace and defeat with dignity; poor winners or losers do a disservice to themselves

9  Adhere to the NCPS Policies regarding T.A.O.D.  Behave responsibly while in school and while participating in the interscholastic programs.  Conduct themselves at all times in a manner, which reflects positively on our athletic teams, our school, and our community.

10 All reports are investigated. Factual Reports from reliable sources constitute policy violations. Unreliable or anonymous reports (hearsay) will not result in disciplinary consequences. A student athlete's violation of any NCHS rule, athletic policy or public law may result in suspension or removal from an athletic team

12  Provide facility and resource enrichment for NCHS athletics.  Recognize and celebrate athletic related achievements by all NCHS coaches and athletes.  Fund professional development for all coaches and support personnel.

13  Liaison to the specific team  Assist in one ASBC per year  Secure volunteers when needed  Attend ASBC meetings and report out to team members

14  The Athletic Director must approve all donations.  All donated goods or services will be made to the All Sport Booster Club  All Sport Booster Club will purchase the goods or services.

15  Sunday is permitted by the CIAC for make-up games…..mutual agreement  CIAC Playoff games mad up on Sunday… mutual agreement not needed.. Prom dates rescheduled…revert back to original date

16  All injuries must be reported to the Certified Athletic Trainer by the athlete.  An Accident Report Form will be completed by the Certified Athletic Trainer.  If medical treatment is recommended a physician should be consulted

17  A Participation Information Form (PIF) will be issued by the Certified Athletic Trainer when it is deemed necessary for an athlete to be restricted or removed from athletic participation.  Athletic Trainer or physician can clear an athlete for return to practice.  Readiness to play is determined by the athletic trainer

18  Head Injuries: Concussion New Canaan High School follows the guidelines set forth by Connecticut's Public Act 10-62, " An Act Concerning Student Athletes and Concussion". It is our policy that athletes who sustain a concussion, regardless of how minor, must be excluded from participation in athletics (practice or play) until he/she is evaluated by a physician.

19  Athlete must be symptom free for a minimum of 7 days or more. This may vary due to individual circumstances.  Under supervision, the athlete will be given a provocation test which will include, jogging, pushups, sit ups and squat thrusts.  The athlete must be symptom free during the test. If symptoms develop, the test will be stopped.  The athlete will repeat the test in one (1) week. Absence from sports for a prolonged period of time will require the athlete to complete a conditioning program prior to returning to their sport.  The specifics of the conditioning program are dependent on the amount of missed sports participation. Specific sports training will progress from non-contact drills to full contact drills and then to game play. athletes must participate in full practices prior to returning to competition.

20  Parents and athletes become familiar with the recognition of concussion signs and symptoms of a concussion; the means of obtaining proper medical treatment for a person suspected of sustaining a concussion; the nature and risks of concussion, including the danger of continuing to play after sustaining a concussion; and the proper method of allowing a student athlete who has sustained a concussion to return to play.
